      Cancellation/Delay FAQ

      What’s a reasonable amount of time to wait for our bus?

      Your bus may arrive at your stop either before or after the scheduled time on any given day. Your bus should arrive at your stop no later than nine minutes after the scheduled time.

      If the bus is delayed by more than nine minutes, the Division will notify parents through SchoolMessenger and the bus status will be updated on our website. Parents can receive bus notifications via text message by simply texting “Y” to 978338. (Standard message and data rates may apply)

      If your bus has not arrived within the nine minute wait time and you have not been contacted, please contact the Division Transportation Officer at 780-986-2500. If your child rides another division's buses, please contact their transportation department.

      How will I be notified of cancellations or delays?

      The Bus Status will be updated on our website. You will also receive an email or phone call through SchoolMessenger to notify you of delays or changes to your route.

      How will I know if our bus has been canceled because of the weather?

      The Bus Status will be updated on our website. You will also receive an email or phone call through SchoolMessenger to notify you of delays or changes to your route. The Division will work with media and sister school boards to communicate this information.

      If your child is bused to one of our schools by another school division, please contact them directly for their bus cancellation procedures and media update information.

      Under what circumstances are buses canceled?

      The following may result in bus cancellation and/or school closures:

      • Temperatures of -40 degrees or lower, with or without windchill
      • Reduced roadway visibility of less than 300 metres.
      • Roads closed by RCMP, municipal, or other local transportation officials.

      The decision to cancel buses will be made by 6:30 a.m. that morning.

      Please note, other school divisions may cancel buses or close schools under different circumstances. 

      Will my child be marked late at school if their bus arrives late?

      Yes; students will be marked as a late bus arrival.

      What happens if my child misses their bus?

      If your child misses their bus, they should go back home in the morning, or into the school at the end of the day and call a parent or guardian.
